Halloween dressup day!

Let the Skyfall...

Last Friday all TYs set off to the cinema in Nass for our second mini company workshop. When we got there we were waiting around for a while and were wondering what the the delay was. then a women came in and said that Orla (the women giving the talk) had unfortunatelybeen taken into hospital this morning so the workshop was to be cancelled.
We all thought that we had to go back on the bus and head back to school. But then she said that they were going to let us watch a movie....SKYFALL the new James Bond Movie. We were delighted we started to scream and clap! I really had wanted to go see it! :)
The movie was amazing, I really enjoyed it! It was the first Bond film I had seen in a while do that made it even better.
Then we got another surprise.....
On the way out a women was standing outside handing out goodie bags with popcorn,sweets, a Madagascar beaker and a free drink!!!!! This finished the day off nicely.
This had to have been the best day so far in TY; free cinema and food :)

The names Bond James Bond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Choir and Orchestra

Choir:

This year I decided I'd join choir for the first time! I haven't got a great voice but I love to sing so i said id give it a try! Practise is every Tuesday at lunch with the two music teachers!

For the first few weeks we just did Mass songs for the Opening School Mass! That was great fun because i new most of the songs and they were lively and upbeat. The mass went really well and everyone song their hearts out :)

At the moment there are no up coming school masses which means that we focus most of our time on the piece we are entering into the Wesley. The song we are learning is called "Caresse sur l'ocean." It is a bit difficult to learn as it is in French  and i have never don French but we are staring to get our heads around it. we are putting in extra practices when we can after school! So far we have just got the start of it but we are making great progress!!!

We will prob start working on some Christmas carols in a few weeks which will be fun!!! (:


 

Orchestra:
At the moment in orchestra we are working on a piece called the 'Toy Symphony'! I have been in orchestra since First year and i play the clarinet! So as you might guess i am playing the clarinet part with two others! Its a really fun piece to play there is even somebody playing the bird whistle which i had never heard of till we started this piece! we have only done the start of it so far! I think it is for Music Night! I love being part orchestra and i cant wait till we sart Christmas carols which like the choir will start in a few weeks (bit early yet)!! :) 

 

 

Technology

This is my First ever year doing Technology, So its been a whole new experience for me! I don't think I had even been in the tech. room before this year :) On the first day, we were shown around and given the rules of the tech. room! Then we were told we are making key ring  first and then a clock!!! After this we are going to enter an international competition that's all about designing a F1 car..!

I have finished making my key ring its made from blue plastic. It turned alright but certainly wasn't the best in the class!! lol I enjoyed making it i wasn't exactly brilliant! But hey i did it!!!
We have begun working on our clocks which has been a little easier than the key ring (I'm not saying its good now!) Its probably because I'm getting used to tech! Its made from Pink plastic and I'm thinking about doing a ladybird for the design on the front

We have left the clocks for a few weeks to work on the F1 competition! Basically the project is all about designing a formal 1 car and writing a report on it then entering it in to a competition. Only two groups get through from each school so we will have to work hard to even get through from our school. I am in a group of five and I'm am the Team manager!

This week was only our first week working on it so we haven't done much! We have come up the name for our car (crescendo) and are working on the logo!
This is one of the projects that I'm really excited about :)

My Trip Around the world!!!!!

Well even though I like to think I am actually going on a trip around the world its really only a geography project!

The brief for this project was to plan a trip around the world. We have to go to two 1st, 2nd and 3rd world countries in a year on a budget of  €12'000! We have to have all information like flights, accommmadation etc!
My plan was to visit Canada, Germany, Kenya, Peru, Croatia and Bosnia! its been difficult but really fun at the same time! I have loved reseaching places to visit in all the countries. The only problem is I actually want to go on this trio now! :)
Its been great working on this project but there is actually so much involed in completing! I have bee researching and doing mine for the past 7 weeks! It has to be in on Friday so everyone is paniking trying to get it all finished.I cant wait to see evreyones completed projects!! :)

Spanish In T.Y.

This year in Spanish class it has been very different than before! not only do I have a new teacher but also we are doing things you wouldn't do if you were in an exam year!

Each week we watch a half an hour of the movie "El Bola1". This movie is quit sad and depressing but still really interesting. Its about a young boy living in a disadvantaged area in Madrid! I missed the last Thursday when the class watched it and apparently a lot happened so I have to catch up!

We have done a "mini" project on Our favourite film (Mi pelicula favorita). Myself and another girl in my class did ours on Dirty Dancing! Its all finished now and hanging on the back wall of the Spanish room!

We have also learnt loads on different Spanish directors! Which has been really interesting. we have improved on loads of areas which we had done in Junior Cert Spanish! I am really enjoying TY Spanish at the moment.

Mini Company Workshop!!

About two fridays' ago everyone in TY went to the first of three workshops organised by Kildare Enterpise Board at Storm Cinema in Naas. There was also 3 other schools from Kildare at the work experience. The workshop was presented by a lady called Orla who gaves us ways of coming up with ideas for our Mini companies. She showed us some of the winning companies from perious years which was very interesting to see the ideas they came up with. She also mentioned a group from our school which won a few years ago. She taught us about working in a team and the roles that must be undertaken. After the workshop the teachers (kindly) brought us to Lidl in Clane! Which was kind of werid but great at the same time! ;) It was really funny watching 80 girls going into Lidl! Everyone bought the cheapest sweets they could find! My friend even bought a carton of milk!!! lol :) :)

Work experience blog!

Fun Walk!

Last week, in school we had our yearly fun walk! It was great fun as usual :) Every class must pick a song with a theme of friendship (because it was anti-bulling week) and make up a dance and dress up if they want.
Each year also gets a colour T.Y were yellow.

My class (Síocháin) decided to dress up as yellow Lego and dance to "hey ya". We made up are dance and practised hard for two weeks and were finaly ready for Friday. Everyone in the class got an old box and painted it yellow and either drew circles or placed toilet roles on the box to make it Lego!The other two classes were bees and yellow pages!

Our class was chose to me the traffic wardens along the walk!

On the Friday every class in every year performed their dances! Everyone was great. Our dance didn't go exactly as planned but we had fun! I really enjoyed being a traffic warden funaly enough! The was great fun and full of  laughs!

The winners of each year group were announced our class didn't win but sure its the taking part that counts!!!!! :D

My Second week in TY

Week 2

This has been another fantastic fun fun filled week. I am really settling into my class and ty! Finally we got our junior cert results on Wednesday, i really happy with my results and so glad its all over now! I and other Most people went to time to celebrate our wonderful results! I really enjoyed the night but i'm still tired! :)

This week I have continued working on all the projects we have been given! We are still working on our Junk Kouture and i'm really enjoying that! Im in a group of three and we are making a communication themed dress from recycled materials! Its been really fun we have just finished paper mache-ing our corset. Im the model! I thought I was chosen for my looks but really it was due too my height! Apparently there's less work needed to make a dress for a small person!! :) In science we got into our groups for the young scientist and brainstorming different ideas, Im really liking science this year. Its been very different compared to last year! so much better!!! I have been working on all the other projects that i mentioned in my last weeks blog! I have really got lots done in geography project1 i have decided what countries i would like to go to and have started planning my trip! :)

All the other subjects have been going well and its great doing subjects i haven't done before especially tech! I cant wait till carlingford on Monday!! it should be great fun...!

Welcome to my ty blog!!

Welcome to my first Blog in TY!!

Week 1!

I cant Believe its just been one week since I started TY. So many interesting things have already happened in just one week! Already we have been given many different projects from many of the classes! So far my favourite's have been the geography virtual trip around the world, Junk kouture in home Ec. and the religion project on Millennium development goals! I cant wait for even more get great projects!Last Wednesday we had three different workshops which were great fun but also I learnt very valuable information!
